Home in Zone X

This may be sung to the melody of "Home on the Range" (Brewster Higley & Daniel Kelley, 1873)

Oh, give me a home where the waters wonít roam,

where itís safe for my children to play,

a place thereís no doubt I wonít have to move out

if the sky should be rainy all day.

Chorus:

Home, home in zone X

Far from the nearest zone A.

A place thereís no doubt I wonít have to move out

if the sky should be rainy all day.

My neighbors all thought that a waterfront lot

was worth extra money to pay.

But to their surprise the big river did rise

and wash all their houses away.

Repeat Chorus

My neighbor pressed from his land. Heís distressed.

Itís unlikely heíll ever come back.

His land turned to mud by the rampaging flood

and his house fell down in the attack.

Repeat Chorus

As the flood waters swirled and my neighbor was whirled,

his house did catch fire and burn.

In a crude makeshift boat down the river heíll float,

to whence he will never return.

Repeat Chorus

As I sit on my hill and watch water fill

the land a lake to become,

From here I look down and watch neighbors drown

and wonder what made them so dumb.

Repeat Chorus and end.
